I have wanted to be a writer since I tried to copy a book onto a piece of paper in the first grade. I learned to print my letters and I was in the living room with my crayons and paper when I opened a book and did my best to transfer the words from the book to my piece of paper. It was nowhere near legible, but I was hooked.

I wrote stories all through Grammar school, getting wonderful grades in English for my stories, my imagination was to thank for that. Junior High school brought Creative Writing classes and more interest in getting the words in my head down on paper. But my real outlet was High School, and a teacher named Jean Smith. She was my Creative Writing teacher. She gave me so much praise and so much freedom of expression that I knew I wanted to be a writer. The class wrote the Literary Magazine, and my stories were prominently featured. But I digress.
Writing wasn’t considered a career, so I went to college, like everyone else. I still wrote, but only for my own enjoyment. I finished my 2 degrees, ran my own business, and then fate threw me a curve ball and decided I needed a Stage 4 cancer to play with. I won the game 35 years ago. I kept writing and decided to get a certificate for the Institute for Children’s Literature. It was the best thing I ever did. My stories kept getting better and better. My desire to write for children kept growing.
I shifted gears and decided to write for teens. I became very prolific in the language of the known teens in my state and others. I studied what they liked and what they didn’t. Learned the correct use of slang and what the best way to contact each other through text was. Then I made the leap into writing my first YA book, a 16 year old with a gambling problem. I’ve never looked back. Four books written, 3 self-published, and an agent on April 20, 2023 who is now in possession of Book 4.
